The OFT has launched a short market study into the sale of second-hand cars. This follows concerns about the large number of consumer complaints about the sector.

The OFT is also consulting on a proposed revision to its guidance on how it conducts market studies. The consultation is open until 4 August and gives stakeholders the opportunity to provide views and comments on the revised guidance.

The appointment was confirmed today at the eighth annual ICN conference in Zurich.

In his closing speech to the conference today, John Fingleton praised the work of the ICN since its inception in drawing together national competition agencies which can achieve more collectively than acting separately.

Cases against home maintenance traders have topped the list of actions in the first year of new consumer legislation, the OFT has revealed.

The OFT has continued its criminal investigation into a suspected unlawful pyramid scheme operating in the South West of England and South Wales by carrying out further raids in the Bristol area.
