St Mary, Seavington

A good example of the small Somerset village church, St Mary’s is away from its hamlet and close by the old A303 road. Originally 13th century, it was considerably enlarged in the 15th and further altered in the 16th and 19th centuries. Recent repairs have revealed remains of a 15th century roof in the nave and traces of mural paintings. Either side of the chancel arch are squints allowing views of the altar from the sides of the nave. The oldest feature is the plain circular Norman font.
