The numerical modelling system developed and used at the Met Office, known as the Unified Model (UM), is available for research and operational use to external users under tailored licence agreements. (A commercial licence is also available. For more information, please contact the external collaboration manager, via the customer centre.)

Operational users have a collaboration agreement with the Met Office, which includes an operational and research licence, and may include an agreed programme of research and development work, aimed at waiving the standard annual licence fee. A website is available to licensed users to provide support for use of the Unified Model and associated software.
The Flexible Configuration Management system (FCM) is open-source software used by Met Office users and external users of the Unified Model.
