Suffragan See of Kingston

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Venerable Richard Ian Cheetham MA PhD, Archdeacon of St Albans, to the Suffragan See of Kingston in the Diocese of Southwark in succession to the Right Reverend Peter Bryan Price on his elevation to the Bishopric of Bath and Wells.

Notes for Editors

The Venerable Richard Cheetham (aged 46) was educated at Kingston Grammar School and Oxford University. On graduation he worked as a science teacher followed by a period as an investment analyst in the City. He then trained for the ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon and served his curacy in Newcastle Diocese from 1987 to 1990. From 1990 to 1999 he was Vicar of Luton, Saint Augustine of Canterbury, Limbury in the Diocese of Saint Albans and Rural Dean of Luton from 1994 to 1998. During this time he completed a doctoral Thesis at King’s College, London. He has been Archdeacon of Saint Albans since 1999.

He is married to Felicity and they have a son and a daughter. His interests include hockey, squash, walking and cinema.
