Diane Coyle, Managing Director of Enlightenment Economics, discussed work she is leading for the BBC Trust on defining and enhancing public value. The Trust's independence and responsibilities make it similar to a number of other institutions which have been set specific tasks by the Government, such as the Monetary Policy Committee, the Competition Commission and NICE. Diane discussed the similarities between these institutions and the ways the concept of public value can help in setting criteria for their decision-taking and also the scope of what can be decided outside the political process.
