About our office

Political & Economic Section

The Political and Economic Section supports the work of the Commercial and Inward Investment Sections by monitoring Taiwan’s macro-economic environment and major political developments of interest to UK companies doing business in Taiwan.

This Section is also responsible for promoting stronger ties between UK and Taiwanese financial institutions by helping to organise visits and exchanges. The Section helps to arrange visits by British academics or NGO experts on legal or human rights issues and other topics of mutual interest. The Head of Political and Economic Section is Edward Dallas.

UK Trade & Investment in Taiwan

The UK Trade & Investment helps UK companies to sell their services and products and invest in Taiwan. It helps Taiwanese companies search for and find British products and services. For Taiwanese businesses who would like to develop links with UK companies to do more business, Commercial Section provides assistance across a wide range of sectors.

The UK Trade & Investment also assists potential and existing Taiwanese investors in the UK.  It offers a free, practical and confidential service covering all aspects of locating in the UK. It works in close co-operation with the UK’s 12 Development Agencies. The Head of Trade and Investment in Taiwan is Stephen Metti.

Visas & British Assistance and Services

The Visa Handling Unit handles all UK visa applications, including vistor, student, employment and settlement. UK Border Agency and the BTCO in Taipei work in partnership with a commercial organisation:  VFS Taiwan Ltd (VFS).  You can find out whether you need a visa and how to apply through VFS’s website.

The British Assistance and Services Section(BASS) provides consular-type services for UK nationals as well as nationals of those countries for whom the BTCO has responsibility. It does not issue passports but can accept passport applications which are processed by the British Consulate General in Hong Kong. Nick Jagger heads this Section.
