Terms and Conditions for Applying

Applications to the Health and Social Care Awards are subject to the following terms and conditions.

  • The awards are limited to England. Submissions from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not eligible.
  • The Health and Social Care Awards is a peer-to-peer scheme with the exception of the Dignity in Care Award, which is also open to public nomination. Members of the public are not able to apply for any other categories within the Awards scheme.
  • Assessors, judges, Department of Health or NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement employees cannot participate in work entered for the Awards.
  • Entries should be submitted via the online entry form unless a paper copy is requested via the helpline 0870 000 1100.
  • Entries can be submitted no later than midnight, Friday 6 March 2009.
  • Entries cannot be amended after the entry deadline has passed.
  • Supplementary materials will be accepted only via the online facility as part of the application form. Please do not send these in as a hard copy. These are limited to a maximum of two documents that are in a Microsoft office package format and A4 printable. One of these can be in graphical or statistical format. We will not accept photographs.
  • Some of the work involved in your entry must have been undertaken in 2007 or 2008.
  • You may not submit the same entry for more than one category, unless you are also applying for the NHS Live Award.
  • All National categories are for team applications only except the Leadership for Improvement Award, which is open to individuals as well as teams
  • You may submit a piece of work previously entered for the Health and Social Care Awards only if sufficient progress has been made in 2007 or 2008 to merit a new award.
  • Work that has previously won a Health and Social Care Award can only be re-submitted if it has been significantly enhanced and expanded since winning.
  • Finalists and winners will be expected to publicise the awards and to help others learn from their work throughout the year.
  • Entries will not be accelerated or otherwise privileged by their success in any other awards scheme.
  • Should the judges determine an entry submitted for one category is of greater relevance to another category, they may re-categorise that entry.
  • All Regional winners will be shortlisted for the national level. This shortlist will undergo a second tier national judging process where the national finalists will be selected.
  • Entries may be edited by the Health and Social Care Awards team to correct any erroneous administrative information.
  • All entries will be vetted and verified for accuracy by that team's Head Of Organisation. Should it come to light that there are issues, whether ethical or factual, pertaining to any application, the Health and Social Care Awards team reserve the right to withdraw that application, whether that application has been selected as a finalist or not.
  • All entries will be read by assessors selected from the Department of Health and NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement.
  • The contact details contained in entries will not be shared outside of the Department of Health and NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, unless permission is granted.
  • The awards organisers and assessors are unable to correspond with individual entrants during the assessment process.
  • Feedback can only be provided for shortlisted applications at National and Regional level, if this is available.
  • Entries received from commercial organisations need to be from teams who are working in partnership with a health and/or social care organisation.
  • The decision of the judges is final.
