Privy Council Appointment of Lord Reed

The Queen has been pleased to approve that the Honourable Lord (Robert John) Reed, a Scottish judge of the Inner House of the Court of Session be sworn of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

Notes for Editors:

The proposal to appoint Scottish judges of the Inner House of the Court of Session to the Privy Council is in accordance with the established procedure in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by which judges automatically become Privy Counsellors when appointed Lord Justices of the Court of Appeal.

The Hon Lord Reed:

Educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh; Edinburgh University; Balliol College, Oxford. Called to Bar, Inner Temple, 1991; Standing Junior Counsel; Scottish Education Department, 1988-89; Scottish Office Home and Health Department, 1989-95; QC (Scot) 1995; Advocate Depute, 1996-98; a Senator of the College of Justice in Scotland, 1998-2008.
