Plymouth Royal Navy / Royal Marines Swimming Club
Welcome to our Club Home Page. Here we hope to entice and advise you on swimming for service personnel and their families in the Plymouth area.
Our club’s main aim is to teach the children of service men and women, and MOD employees in the Plymouth area, how to swim. Starting in the calendar year in which a child is 4, we follow the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) "National Plan" and the "Frosties" Award Scheme.
For the more advanced swimmers aged 8 and above (there is no upper age limit in swimming!), we train for and enter assorted city, county and forces' galas.
The club is staffed entirely by unpaid, ASA qualified volunteers, who also serve on the club, city, county and regional ASA boards. This drastically reduces the club’s running costs and therefore membership costs.
We now have a membership of almost 300 spread across both HMS Drake and Raleigh pools and our children have really made a name for themselves due to their good behaviour, enjoyment and the enthusiasm they show when competing. This is a compliment not only to "the Management" but in particular to Chris Fairey and his wife Dee, who have been the backbone of the club since its inception in 1989.
Unfortunately we have lost some of our best young swimmers to the better known local clubs but it is with great pride that we can look on as these youngsters reach National Standards.
