International Defence Training (Royal Navy)
International Defence Training (Royal Navy) is now established as the 'one stop shop' for Royal Navy training. Co-located with the Naval Recruiting and Training Agency in Portsmouth, IDT(RN) provides the focal point for all aspects of Royal Navy Training including Initial Officer Training, career training for all ranks, Naval Aviation, Submarine and Royal Marine training and Operational Sea Training delivered by FOST.

Maritime Warfare School
The Maritime Warfare School (MWS) is a federated training establishment incorporating HMS Collingwood, HMS Excellent, the Defence Diving School, the RN Physical Training School, the School of Hydrography and Meteorology in Plymouth and the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth Naval Base. At any one time the MWS is training about 10% of the Service and has an annual throughput of over 30,000 Officers and Ratings, both regular and reserve.

Flagship Training Ltd
Flagship Training Ltd markets the Royal Navy's extensive training capabilities to overseas navies, related maritime customers and to industry as a whole. Through Flagship's unique partnering agreement with the Navy, non-RN customers can access a broad range of training programmes, which are delivered either by RN instructors or Flagship personnel working to the same exacting standards.

Defence Academy of the UK
The Defence Academy is the UK Defence's Higher Educational Institution and comprises of the Royal College of Defence Studies, the Joint Services Command and Staff College, the Defence College of Management and Technology, the Advanced Research and Assessment Group, and the Armed Forces Chaplaincy Centre. The Defence Academy is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of command, staff, leadership, defence management, acquisition and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants.

Naval Educational Support

If you are preparing to leave the Navy you may see what resettlement options are available. Here are the opportunities available at the main port area bases.
