The stunning cinematic and painterly work of Swiss artist Hannes Schüpbach includes portraits, leading from the immediate encounter of a place or figure to metaphoric resonance.
His work been shown in the artist's first large solo exhibition entitled 'Stills and Movies' at Kunsthalle Basel from January to March 2009. It is accompanied by screenings of the films at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Harvard Film Archive in Cambridge, and at Tate Modern.
