The Prime Minister has today published a strategy setting out the UK's approach to Afghanistan and Pakistan – building on the strategy for Afghanistan the Prime Minister announced in December 2007, and the consistent support we have given to Pakistan in recent years.

The Pre Budget Report 2008 announced that the Government would deliver a further £5 billion value for money savings in 2010-11. This would be in addition to the £30 billion of savings by the end of 2010-11 agreed during the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review. This document sets out, department by department, how the Government intends to deliver the £35 billion through an ambitious programme of value for money reforms across the public sector.

Power of Information Taskforce report released

The Power of Information Taskforce has looked at how the internet can strengthen the relationship between the citizen and the state – enabling 3rd sector provision of online services and two-way conversations about public services. It has submitted its final report with 25 challenging recommendations to Tom Watson, Minister for Digital Engagement.

Civil Service Reform Paper released


Minister for the Cabinet Office Liam Byrne has published a working paper that provides an overview of the importance and nature of Civil Service reform. The paper looks at the major interventions of the past 10 years, what we know about the thinking behind reform of the Civil Service, and what we need to do to implement change.
