RMR Bristol

RMR Bristol

The Royal Marines Reserve (RMR) Bristol is one of five RMR Units across the UK which provides Commando trained reservist soldiers capable of serving alongside their regular counterparts anywhere in the world.  Since 2003 volunteer Marines from RMR Bristol have consistently deployed on combat operations to Iraq and Afghanistan.  Currently RMR Bristol ranks are deployed on Op Herrick 9 and are anticipating deploying on Op Herrick 12 in 2010.

RMR Bristol is divided into five detachments to enable Reservists to be drawn from the main areas of population within South West England and Wales. The main detachment is Bristol which is located alongside the HQ. The four remaining detachments are based in Poole, Plymouth, Cardiff and Lympstone (near Exeter).

RMR Bristol provides the opportunity to train in many of the Royal Marines’ specialisations such as Sniper, Reconnaissance Operator,  Landing Craftsman and Platoon Weapons Specialists. RMR Bristol has a particular focus on Close Support Weapons - the 50 calibre Heavy Machine Gun and Javelin (Anti-tank) missile system. On completion of their Commando Training Marines from RMR Bristol have the opportunity to train in the use of these weapon systems with a view to using them on Operations and exercises around the globe.

RMR Bristol provides a unique opportunity to be become a fully trained Royal Marines Commando soldier. Recruits are paid for days spent training and once fully trained both short and long term contracts are available.

The Royal Marines Reserve is looking for the Commandos of the future - Are you one of them?

Recruit presentation evenings on the Bristol, Cardiff, Lympstone, Poole and Plymouth Pages.

The first Wednesday of each month is designated as a Presentation Evening. Potential recruits are invited to attend these evenings to give them a clear view of the Royal Marines Reserve (RMR) in action.  There will be an opportunity to observe training, speak to current Recruits and Reservists and receive a short presentation on the RMR and its role within the Royal Marines.  If you are thinking about joining the RMR, this is the best way to answer all your questions, there are no ties to attending the evening but should you decide to join it is the first step on the ladder.  The Presentations are held in all of our Detachments at the same time of 2000 hrs on the first Wednesday of every month.  Potential Recruits should arrive at the detachments by 1915 hrs.  We prefer if you ring ahead and let us know you are coming so we can arrange someone to meet you, but you can just turn up on the night.

Our next selection weekend will be 22 - 24 May 2009

Applications to join RMR Bristol should be made up to 6 months in advance of this date to allow time for pre-selection tests and admittance to holding troop where the potential recruit will receive guidance and instruction on the physical conditioning required to pass the selection weekend.
