Palma Training

Training with the RN!Since my last blog it’s been full steam ahead for Team Clark.  We have done some great training on our own and with the squad in Weymouth.  This was rounded off with the first Spring Series event where, after only 3 weeks in the boat, we were extremely please to finish a very close second.  Straight after the event we loaded our boat up and shipped out to Palma for some warmer weather training in preparation for our first international event there in Apr.

470 Campaign Taking Shape

Austria fitness campMy campaign has been moving forward rapidly since my last post.  I can now officially announce that my crew for my new campaign will be Saskia Clark.  Saskia was one of my team mates at the Olympics last year where she finished 6th in the 470 class with her helm Christina Bassadone.  She is the ideal choice of crew due to her extensive experience in the class and her size and weight which perfectly complements me.

Navy Team Sailing

Over the last couple of months I have been working hard to get my new Olympic Campaign planned and up and running. In mid November our International Sailing Federation voted and agreed the classes of boat that would be used in the 2012 Olympics. There were a few close votes but eventually the only change for the women was the keel boat which has changed from the Yngling to the Elliot 6m with a new format being match racing. Due to my size and weight I have decided to switch from the Laser Radial to the 470 for this campaign and have been busy getting hold of a boat and setting it up ready for some intensive winter training.

Royal Navy Supporting Me for 2012 Olympic Games

Yesterday I has some fantastic news - I’m going to be allowed the time to campaign for 2012!  I’m absolutely over the moon as ever since I returned from China I have felt that there’s unfinished business regarding the Olympics.  Now I have the opportunity to rectify the mistakes I made this time round and to once again strive for perfection and hopefully bring a medal home.

China Training Camp - June 2008

I am currently training in China with the British Sailing Team in preparation for the Olympics now only 7 weeks away. The venue is complete in every respect and all we can do now is practice on all the course areas and experience the variable conditions here in China.

So far we have had fresh force 5 winds to days of thick (100ft visibility) fog and light winds. The conditions are variable enough to generate quality training so I am able to practice in as many of the variables as possible.
