Final Training Before Olympics

7 people rate this

I have just returned from Holland where I was competing in my first international event since selection.  It felt great to be back competing and getting back into training again after time off ,however I felt a little ‘race rusty’ at the start of the event.

The plan was to use the event as a building block towards the Games and to help identify where I need to focus my efforts and put into place key features that will help me achieve in China.

Light winds dominated for the main part of the event and I felt I had fairly good pace, although problems with getting off the starting line affected my consistency.

Will We Be Selected for the Olympics?

9 people rate this

The World Championships have just finished and I am once again left with mixed emotions.  My goal was to achieve a top ten finish and to be the top British boat in order to end the Olympic Selection Process.  I achieved my first goal by finishing a very pleasing 7th, however I was beaten by Andrea Brewster who managed to secure the Bronze Medal.

This is one of the unfortunate aspects of sport where you can only control how well you do and not how anyone else does.  Andrea sailed a superb regatta knowing she had nothing to lose having finished 4th Brit in Miami.  This obviously seriously complicates the decision for the Olympic selection committee and only a fool would try to pre-empt their decision!

Olympic Trials

Just a quick update to let you know how the first regatta in our Olympic Trials has gone.

I’m pleased to report that I finished fourth overall and as the top British boat. More importantly I sailed a really consistent regatta and was so far in front of the next British boat (Charlotte Dobson), that there was no way she could catch me going into the medal race.  Although she finished 6th overall, only two places behind me, the points gap gives me a really important psychological advantage in the trials.
