Profile

A Serving member of the British Royal Navy, it was perhaps by destiny that in 2006 Jay Picton, a Leading Physical Trainer, critically injured his knee whilst playing and coaching rugby at HMS TEMERAIRE, PORTSMOUTH. After having made a New Year’s resolution to learn guitar and with unexpected sick leave on his bored hands, Jay decided to teach himself how to play. He soon discovered he could also sing and with encouragement from close friends, Jay decided to pursue music more seriously and began writing. It was whilst serving time away on detachment that both he and his music matured. Jay slowly learnt how to capture his emotions, transferring them to music. On return from operations he was discovered by Producer Clyde Ward from Worldward Productions. The reputable producer had Jay recording in his studio in a matter of weeks.

After recording and unofficially releasing his 3 track demo into an online store, Jay topped the indiestore charts powered by 7 digital after just 2 days and stayed there for a further five weeks! Not bad for a Clubswinger! This kicked off an onslaught of attention for our boy Sailor as since then he’s been featured in numerous National press newspapers, magazines, Internet press articles and radio programs. One of worth mention, Gordon Smart’s Bizarre column of The Sun newspaper; having listened to the 3 track demo they have backed him all the way featuring him in various articles including their 2008 predictions as a top Breakthrough Artist, which included recent number 1 Artist Adele and Estelle. Jay’s Internet presence is also growing, stacking up over a massive 180,000 myspace hits. It’s clear that the Welsh soul singer is becoming a known identity; however it still seems all too untrue considering he is still unsigned and a member of our Country’s Military, regularly turning in at Fort Blockhouse Gymnasium to take Lunchtime Circuits.

Totally self-taught Jay doesn’t read music but plays and sings from the soul. His music, style and voice shows maturity beyond his years but with his boyish, ragged good looks it is sure that Jay is set for MASSIVE things. He has recently been described as ‘Some kind of 60’s Soul Love Child’ by Number 1 Songwriter Jules Gallagher who wrote such smash hits as ‘Dreams’ by Gabrielle and No1 Albums like ‘Fever’ – by Kylie Minogue. Jay has also been Co-writing with the Brit Awarding winning Orson and given songs to sing by Eg White who is The ‘Biggest’ Songwriter in the Country at the moment after writing such Number 1 hits as ‘Mercy/Warwick Avenue – Duffy, ‘Wonderful World -James Morrison, ‘Chasing Pavements’ - Adele.

Jay currently has been placed working for the Royal Navy Role Model Scheme, amongst working immensely hard to finish his Album and cover his role at FORT BLOCKHOUSE Gymnasium as a Physical Trainer.

Hello Shippers!

J PictonI’m Jay Picton aka Taffy P, Toffee P, Picky Pop.  I’m a Physical Trainer in our country’s fine Royal Navy. I’m currently serving at Fort Blockhouse gymnasium sort of part time, as I’m pursuing a small sabbatical in support of a music career and being a Royal Navy ‘role model’, which is pretty wicked but actually quite tiring!!
