TS Illustrious Sea Cadet Corps

The Sea Cadets are a uniformed, disciplined youth movement based upon the traditions of the Royal Navy, with a history stretching back as far as the Crimean War.  They have 400 units across the nation (known as Training Ships) with a total of approximately 16,000 cadets.  Although it is not a pre-service organisation, around 20% of new recruits starting careers in the RN are Sea Cadets, arriving highly skilled and motivated, and bringing commitment, loyalty, and a spirit of service developed in the Sea Cadets.  They are frequently those that stay with the Royal Navy for long and rewarding careers.
The Royal Navy in return can offer Sea Cadet units great opportunities to visit their Ships alongside or even to sail with them, so that they can experience the full flavour of life at sea.
Unique among youth organisations, the Corps is a charity and receives no Government funding, but instead is supported by its own charity, the Sea Cadet Association.

TS Illustrious, based in Walton-on-the-Naze, is one of 4 Essex based units affiliated to Illustrious.  A well subscribed and active unit, they make the most of their affiliation with HMS Illustrious.
