Collingwood Staff Support Hospice Mad March Hair Day

Wardroom Mad Hair
Bish Hair

Rowan's Hospice, Portsmouth, benefited from the madness of a number of staff at HMS Collingwood who decided to ‘dress their hair’ differently for Mad March Hair Day on Friday 20 March.

Stewards working in the Wardroom, got some very strange looks from Officers as they came in for lunch, with one member of staff wearing a bright pink wig, and their boss, who normally dons a very conservative look – turning up in long back wig, as the photograph shows!

Not to be out done, Chaplain Janice Pettipher, charged colleagues £1 to put ribbons in her hair.  She attempted to share the fun with Executive Officer for HMS Collingwood, Commander Alun Watts, but for some reason this proved all too difficult as the second photograph shows!

VT Flagship were also represented, with four members of staff wearing brightly coloured wigs for the day.  In total £97 was raised for this very worthy cause.

Rowan’s Hospice offers specialist palliative care, delivered by a multi-professional team, to people in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire affected by life-limiting illnesses; this includes families and friends.  The services that the Hospice provides are completely free of charge.  Although kept to a minimum the running costs of the Rowans 19 bedded unit and Day Care facility are currently around £5,480 per day.  The NHS makes an annual grant, and the support of 350 volunteers helps minimise the costs, but £1.7 million is still needed to be raised from other sources.
