Yeovilton Flight Wins Top Trophy

A Lynx Helicopter Flight from 815 Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton has been awarded the coveted Sopwith Pup Trophy for 2007/8. The Trophy is awarded annually to the Flight achieving the highest standard of operational readiness, capability and performance throughout the year.

202 Flight, commanded by Lt Cdr Spike Milligan was embarked in HMS Manchester, and was a key part in the preparations for operations in the Gulf with a US Carrier Group. Once deployed they were at the forefront of operations in the Gulf involved in combined operations throughout the whole of the Arabian Gulf.

The Citation stated “202 flight has made an important contribution to HMS Manchester’s successful deployment, and to the achievement of the Carrier Strike Group’s allocated Mission.. maintaining operational capability of the highest level”
