Plymouth Royal Navy / Royal Marines Swimming Club
News Letter - April 2007
Welcome one and all to the Spring News Letter. I would like to start by mentioning the excellent efforts from all our swimmers and poolside staff (some of who swam as well) during the sponsored distance swim on 10th March. It looks like a very tidy sum has been raised (exact figure TBC) so a hearty pat on the back for all involved, especially Dee Fairey, who achieved an excellent 1000m!!
Level 1 ASA teachers Course
On with the meat of the letter, we are looking for volunteers for the ASA Level 1 Swimming Teachers course which the club is hoping to run sometime after the summer holidays, anyone interested should contact the club Stu Robinson, the club Education Secretary. We are proposing to share the course with the Devonport Royal Swimming Club so there will be a lot less disruption to the kid’s lessons. Don’t forget, the better trained the poolside staff, the higher the quality of instruction for the kids (and adults if you want).
A Volunteer Club
Please don’t forget that all of our instructors are unpaid volunteers with full time jobs, so if a lesson does start slightly late, it is probably due to work commitments, congestion or the pool not being opened in time for us to set up prior to the lesson start time. This is still, by far the cheapest and most dedicated swim club in the city for young swimmers. You may also want to bear in mind that other clubs are run as businesses with the swimmers best interests competing with the realities of financing that business. We also take the same teacher courses, teach to the same criteria and have the advantage of generally having smaller sizes.
More Volunteers Required
If you feel you can help ease the situation, please do make yourself known to the poolside staff, we are always looking for volunteers especially to help out on Wednesday evenings at Raleigh and Saturday mornings at Drake for the general club sessions. We also require volunteers to help out on Monday and Thursday evenings at Drake pool with the advanced and competition swimmers.
Club E-mail Address
You will be pleased to hear that the club has its own e-mail facility which anybody can send to but which can only be read by club officials. If you have any questions or points for the club, please send them to:

Entry to Club Competitions
A reminder to all parents of swimmers aged 8 years and over, entry forms will soon be available for the club champs on 14/15 Jul. If the completed form is not submitted before the day of the competition, the swimmer will not be able to take part. Full competition rules will promulgated with the entry forms.
No entry form by the cut off date unfortunately means no swim. Should you wish to take photos or video of the competitions, don't forget to read the rules relevant to poolside photography (which includes mobile phone snaps).
Don’t forget that the club shop is open for business; see Whiskey for your fleeces, swim suits, hats and fins etc. Please also note that future news letters should be delivered by e-mail, which should save a tree or two.. Should you not have an e-mail account, please let any of the poolside staff know so that we can produce hard copies for you.
