Welcome To Portsmouth HIVE Information Centre
Portsmouth is a waterfront city on the south coast of England.
Home to the Royal Navy for more than 500 years, Portsmouth’s mix of historic ships, castles, forts and museums make it one of the best places in which to explore the history of this sea-faring nation. The historic dockyard is home to Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, the Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum. You can also visit the new interactive naval attraction - Action Stations.
Portsmouth City Centre boasts the Cascades Centre which houses numerous high street stores that flow out onto Commercial Road where there is a market held at the end of the week. There are also many places to eat and drink. A short walk will also take you to The Charles Dickens Museum. Southsea seafront has four miles of attractions offering stunning views across the Solent - the ideal location to watch ships enter and leave Portsmouth Dockyard.
Situated on the outskirts of Portsmouth is Port Solent, the south coasts most impressive marina welcoming both novice and experienced sailors. You will also find shops on The Boardwalk, wine bars, pubs and restaurants, cinema and leisure centre.
Many new leisure and tourist attractions have been created, including six kilometres of promenades around the harbour and the Gunwharf Quays development which incorporates new berths, the Spinnaker Tower, shopping, leisure, restaurants and bars, along with a residential area. Visitors can enjoy unparalleled access to the waterfront and waterbus services that link both sides of the harbour.
More than three million people travel to and from Portsmouth every year through the Continental Ferry Port that links the city with northwest France, northern Spain and the Channel Islands. Portsmouth is only 70 minutes from London and close to three international airports.
