The Community Resource team members are always receptive to new ideas for groups and Centre usage.

The Social Committee consists of volunteers working for your community, organising Family Discos, Quiz Nights, Theme events and so much more. As with all voluntary roles, new people with ideas, commitment and enthusiasm are always wanted. So if you have an interest in your community, please come along, the rewards are many - fun evenings and great appreciation for all that you do!

Suzanne Teixeira is the Centre Administrator at the Cockleshell and is always available to welcome you to the Centre. The Centre may be hired out for your special event - once again speak with Suzi to book. The rates are reasonable and if you need the bar then prices are more than affordable.

Coffee Shop - Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30am - 11:30am
The new coffee shop is friendly and busy with many activities planned for both adults and children. Come along and have a chat, maybe have some elevenses or late breakfast, it is a great opportunity for your young children to socialise and play with others.

Cockleshell Youth Groups
The Centre has two youth groups that meet on Monday and Tuesday evenings 6pm till 8pm. Monday evening is for the younger age group, 5yrs to 11yrs. This group is very busy with 25 attending most weeks. So if you have a youngster at home and they would like to come along, maybe make new friends or catch up with school friends out of school, please bring them along. All the usual youth group activities including tuck shop, art and craft and whatever the young people fancy 'having a go at' are available. Once again volunteers are always welcome.

Tuesday evening is the time for our older young people to meet. This group decides and plans the majority of their own activities. The emphasis is on fun with time out to chat and relax, often something that young people do not have time to do these days with the demands of schoolwork. We are a welcoming group and would love new faces, so come and give us a try.

Sunbeams Community Playgroup
Sunbeams meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 9.30am till 11.25am. The group is run by volunteers from our community, who work tirelessly to raise funds, providing a safe, stimulating and fun place for our young children to attend on a weekly basis. Mandy is the playgroup leader with Gaye as her assistant. Please feel free to contact Karen Lawson, Group Chairperson for more information on the group and registering your child.

Social events are held in the bar area most weekends. The Centre has a static Disco Unit complete with flashing lights and dance area. Barbecues are held in the summer months and Halloween/ Christmas/ New Years Eve parties are organised for both adults and children. This Centre is within secluded, pleasant and safe surroundings, making an ideal venue for the Summer Play Scheme, which is usually arranged for all of August. The Play Scheme is well attended each year, as there is something for all age groups. Pre-planning by the Community Resource Workers and Centre Administrator ensure it is successful regardless of weather. Further details can be obtained by contacting a Community Resource Worker or a Centre Administrator. We always welcome new ideas and suggestions as to what you would like at your Community Resource Centre.

Maureen Johnson manages the 'Phoenix' during the day; Maureen organises the very friendly and busy coffee mornings. Why not come along any morning between 10am - noon, have a coffee, maybe a toastie and a chat and come to feel a part of your local community? For those of you with small children, the coffee mornings offer plenty of scope, whatever your child's age, to play with the many toys as well as providing the opportunity to gain valuable social playing time. Throughout the year the funds that are raised are put back into the group with special events.

Various other events take place during Coffee Shop such as visits from the Pre-school Learning Alliance, providing structured play sessions. Shirley will be visiting the coffee shop later this month.

Computer and Internet facilities are available at the Phoenix Centre. Service Personnel and families are welcome to use this facility to keep in touch with deployed spouses through e-blueys and e-mails. The office will be open during normal working hours, please contact Maureen if you wish to use the computer.
