Welcome To Culdrose HIVE Information Centre
RNAS Culdrose is situated on the outskirts of Helston, an ancient market town that is the gateway to the Lizard Peninsula (Britain’s most southerly point) in Cornwall. The District is rich in scenery, history and culture and is popular year-round holiday destination.
The town stands on the east bank of the River Cober, which was once tidal before it was cut of from the sea by the Loe Bar sandbank in the 13th century. This created Loe Pool, Cornwall’s largest freshwater lake. The walks around Loe Pool are considered by many to be amongst the best in the West Country.
Perhaps Helston’s greatest claim to fame is the internationally famous festival of the Furry, or Flora Dance. This is held every year on May 8th. Thousands of visitors throng the streets all day and there is a carnival atmosphere from dawn to well into the night.
Further a field are the towns of Falmouth, Penzance, St. Ives, Camborne and Redruth. The city of Truro, the administrative centre of the county, is 18 miles from Helston and offers a wide range of shops, attractions and entertainment.
Cornwall is a beautiful county with some of the best beaches in the UK and a wealth of attractions and activities to suit all ages and tastes.
