International Defence Training (Royal Navy)

2008 coverRoyal Navy (RN) training has been transformed, with Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) taking responsibility for all RN and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) training. The new structure has training delivery brigaded into 5 streams; Naval Core Training*, Royal Marine, Submarine, Surface and Aviation. This improves coherency and allows the natural synergies to be better exploited, yielding a more dynamic and responsive training organisation.

FOST’s International Defence Training (Royal Navy) (IDT(RN)) is the primary gateway for all RN and Auxiliary training. IDT(RN) provides the focal point for all aspects of Naval training including Initial Officer, Officer and Ratings career courses, Naval Aviation, Submarine, Royal Marine and Operational Sea Training (OST) at Tier 1 (Task Unit) and Tier 2 (Task Group).

This catalogue allows you to easily access information on the full range of established courses and guide you through the administrative process required to secure places on them. The range of training available covers all naval disciplines as well as instructional and management development.

The opportunities for training are not limited to the contents of this catalogue. All aspects of Royal Navy training can be arranged including Computer Assisted Command Systems (CACS) and Pre-Joining Training for individual ship types and ship’s companies. Significant additional training opportunities are available in conjunction with our commercial training partner, Flagship Training Limited, which is now well established as a world leader in innovative naval training solutions.

The Royal Navy’s reputation for providing training of the highest quality drives us to constantly evaluate and develop in order to remain relevant and current in today’s changing world where Conflict Prevention, Counter Terrorism and protection of Exclusive Economic Zones are key goals.

Ultimately, through the delivery of the finest naval training, IDT(RN) contributes substantially to building lasting relationships with the International Defence community.
