Welcome To Cottesmore HIVE Information Centre

RAF Cottesmore is the key component of Joint Force Harrier, the formation of which has brought together for the first time the Royal Air Force’s three operational Harrier GR7 squadrons on the same station. RAF Cottesmore is also home to No.504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

Cottesmore is located in Rutland, which is the smallest county in England, measuring only 16 miles by 16 miles, and lies half way between London and York. The county has two historic market towns Oakham and Uppingham, and 54 beautiful quintessential English villages spread across the rolling, rural landscape.

At the centre of the county lies Rutland Water, the largest man-made lake in Western Europe. The attractive 3,100 acre reservoir has an international reputation for providing a balance of sport, leisure and wildlife conservation and offers everyone the opportunity to try something new.

Oakham is the nearest town, packed full of historic buildings, interesting landmarks and stylish shops. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, and remains a traditional bustling English market town.

The pretty town of Uppingham lies on a ridge in the south of Rutland. The market place dates back to the 13th century. Home to many interesting shops and honey coloured buildings, which contribute to its unique charm and character.

Nearby Stamford is an extremely beautiful town, well known for its attractive stone and fine Georgian architecture. The River Welland flows through the centre, where you will find unusual shops, elegant buildings and many historic churches.
