Eastern Area Community Information | Community Centres

Eastney, Cockleshell Community Resource Centre

Henderson Road

The Centre provides a wide variety of activities for you to participate in and enjoy.

The Coffee Shop continues to grow and you are invited to come along on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a chat and light refreshments. The ladies are very friendly; the children adorable and a new face always welcome. So if the housework is done, (or can wait), the children are at school or your little one in need of entertainment why not come along for a coffee, we would love to see you there.

There is a lovely outside space, with play area, small playpark and coming soon a large play sandpit.

There are a number of opportunities to join in with local Community Children’s Playgroups, (these are partnership initiatives with the local Cumberland Children’s).  There is also Youth Group on a Tuesday.

The Cockleshell needs YOU! Ever thought about VOLUNTEERING, maybe helping out at YOUTH GROUP, or helping start a new group doing something you have a passion for, such as Art or Sewing?  If you have a skill or a passion, why not share it with us - we are waiting to learn!

The Community Centre is also available for private hire and private functions for birthday parties, weddings, children’s parties, etc at weekends.   Contact Centre Administrator about booking availability, rates and terms and conditions of hire.

Hilsea, Phoenix Community Resource Centre

Salerno Rd

The Community Resource Centre is your place, it is there to provide and meet your needs and one activity that has been running for a long time and has been a comfort to many wives and children is the Coffee Shop.

Maureen runs the COFFEE SHOP and would like to say a few words:

COFFEE SHOP is an informal group who meet each day in the Community Centre from 10am - 11.30am. We serve light refreshments (at a small cost). The group is mostly pre-school children although at holiday time we do have older brothers and sisters too. It's not unknown for Dads to come along as well. The group has a good selection of indoor and outdoor toys, which we get out each day for unstructured play. We have "Fun Days" and day trips out to places such as Longdown Dairy Farm and the Kings Theatre at Christmas to see the PANTO. A great day was had by all, Mum and Dad and children, all paid for out of the coffee shop funds. We have booked to go again this year. The children of the group are involved in a sponsored sun flower event for a charity which creates gardens for children hospices. 15 children are involved, the tallest flower is 23cm high and we hope to plant them outside in the grounds of the Community Centre soon. In September we will be involved in the "World's Biggest Coffee Morning" in aid of Macmillan cancer relief. We hope to have a BBQ, weather permitting that is, and maybe a Dad to light the BBQ! Well, we live in hope.

The group will always welcome a new face so don't be shy, come along and join in the fun, it's your Community Centre too. Well that's it folks for the summer issue, take a look at the programme of events and the choice is yours. Have a wonderful summer, enjoy the sunshine when it shines and see you at the Summer Bash.

Please remember that the Centre is there for you and if you have an idea or a passion for an activity that you would like to share then CALL US OR DROP IN - Maureen and Lynda would love to hear from you.

The Crossley Community Resource Centre continues to be a place of activity for those living in the Fareham and Gosport area. During the day the Centre is open and is used by quite a few groups, including the Gosport Child Minders Association "Smarty Tots" and Sure Start Parent and Toddler Groups.

It is open too in the evenings and is used by the Crossley Darts Team on Mondays, Parents Need Fathers, and of course several Youth activities, including Rainbows, Youth Disco and Youth Group. Why not pop into the Centre to find out for yourself the full programme of activities on offer? The Centre Administrators will be happy to advise you of what is going on.

Every Friday evening is Family Night and the Crossley Social Committee hosts a Family Disco. The bar is open and they organise raffles for both adults and children. The Committee is busy planning the next few months programme of events, which will include Quizzes, Fancy Dress themed nights and an Adult Only Night.
