Captain Simon Kings MBE FiCM DipFM Royal Navy

Captain Simon Kings is 44 and joined the Royal Navy straight from school at the age of 18.  During his 26 years he has served as a Surface Warfare Officer and Lynx helicopter Observer.  His operational experience includes 6 months flying in the Gulf during the “Tanker Wars” in 1988 and acting as a member of the MOD Crisis Management Organisation covering operations in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001-3.   He has previously served as the Commanding Officer of Mine Hunter HMS Dulverton between 1994 and 1997 and latterly the Destroyer HMS Edinburgh from 1998 – 2000.  During this time Edinburgh was deployed as the air defence escort to the UK’s Amphibious Task Group.  His last appointment was as a Deputy Director within the MoD responsible for planning and programming the Royal Navy’s future capability including the replacement aircraft carriers and Type 45 destroyer programmes.  Captain Kings Took Command of HMS Ocean in May 2008.

Captain Kings is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.  He is married with 2 children and lives in Chichester.  He enjoys dinghy racing and downhill skiing, and is an active supporter of all of HMS Ocean’s sports teams.
