    Job description

In conflict, good intelligence allows you to stay one step ahead of the enemy. It is your job to intercept and analyse communications signals from around the world. Whether in peacetime or the heat of battle, you will gather vital operational and strategic intelligence for the ship's Captain and Warfare Officers.

We offer most people the security of a Full Career, which is 18 years or to age 40, whichever is later. Some people may have the opportunity to serve for longer, depending on their wishes and the needs of the Service. However, if you want to leave the Royal Navy, you can submit 12 months' notice two and a half years after the end end of your initial professional training. The exact length of this training period depends on the particular job you do and the level of training it requires. All new recruits have a right of discharge at 14 days notice after 4 weeks, within the first 6 months of service, regardless of career terms.

    On board

    Name: Gareth Evans
    Age: 24

What is the most exciting part of your job?

If we're in a wartime situation, and we've got flash signals coming in, we have to receive that signal and give the best possible picture to the people commanding the ship. It can all come in pretty fast.

What is the next stage in your career going to be?

I can be trained in Russian or Arabic so that I can work as an interpreter, so I'm thinking about doing that.
