The Royal Navy's most powerful attack submarine programme reached a milestone today as the traditional 'laying the keel' ceremony was performed by Defence Secretary John Hutton for the fourth Astute class submarine 'Audacious'.
The most recent stage of the build at the BAE Systems shipyard was to lift the 76-tonne bridge fin onto the hull of the submarine.
The unique Ship Lift at HM Naval Base Clyde has taken delivery of 45 very large – and very special pieces of wood.
Crew from HMS Ambush visited Derby from the 23rd to the 26th October.
