Strategic financial leadership programme

The Strategic Financial Leadership Programme is a jointly sponsored programme between the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and Monitor.

The programme aims to develop the technical and behavioural skills of finance directors to meet the challenges arising from the current Health Service reforms.

The programme is delivered by a world class consortium of providers led by Cass Business School.  Cass has an impressive track record in delivering business and management education, being ranked number two in the UK, and number six in Europe in 2004 Financial Times rankings.  It also boasts the largest finance teaching faculty of any business school in Europe.

The programme is unique from current finance interventions in the sector. It has a high emphasis on application and experiential learning which is focused on enabling participants to apply learning directly back in the workplace.

Two pilot programmes were delivered in January and March 2007 and feedback from these have now been incorporated into the wider roll out of the programme. These programmes comprised individuals from a range of NHS organisations who described the programme as an excellent experience, motivating and challenging, providing them with a rich experience of debate and knowledge transfer. They particularly found the opportunity for networking with participants from a mix of organisations from across the NHS beneficial.
