Checks on counter-terrorism laws

The nation's counter-terrorism laws must delicately balance the government's need to investigate and prevent terrorism with the public's right to civil liberties.

To make sure that terrorism laws do not upset that balance, the laws are independently reviewed on a regular basis.

All of these reviews are available to the public, along with the government's responses.

Recent independent reviews

Reviews of the nation's counter-terrorism laws are conducted by Lord Carlile of Berriew QC.
