Suffragan See of Selby

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Venerable Martin William Wallace, BD, AKC for election as Bishop Suffragan of Selby in succession to the Right Reverend Humphrey Vincent Taylor MA on his resignation.

Notes for Editors

The Venerable Martin Wallace (born 1948) was educated at Kings College, London where he took a BD (Hons) and AKC in 1970. He trained for the ministry at St Augustine’s Theological College. He was curate at Attercliffe, Sheffield Diocese from 1971 to 1974 and at New Malden and Coombe, Southwark Diocese from 1974 to 1977. He was Vicar of Forest Gate St Mark, Chelmsford Diocese from 1977 to 1993 and Priest-in-charge Emmanuel 1985 to 1989 and All Saints, Forest Gate from 1991 to 1993. He was also Chaplain of Forest Gate hospital from 1977 to 1980. From 1982 to 1991 he was Rural Dean of Newham. He was Chelmsford Diocesan Urban Officer from 1991 to 1993. In 1993 he became Priest-in-charge of Bradwell and St Lawrence and Industrial Chaplain, Maldon and Dengie, posts he held until 1997. He was an Honorary Canon of Chelmsford Cathedral from 1989 to 1997. Martin Wallace has been Archdeacon of Colchester since 1997.

He has had four publications: "Healing Encounters in the City," 1987, "City Prayers", 1994, "Pocket Celtic Prayers", 1996 and "The Celtic Resource Book", 1998.

Archdeacon Wallace is married to Diana they have one son and one daughter. His interests include local history and garden design. He also enjoys tenpin bowling.
