Thames 2000 Initiative
Thames 2000 Initiative
Award description: The five new piers of the Thames 2000 Initiative are seen as vital in the provision of a sustainable transport system for London and in promoting greater use of the capital's river. Located at strategic points along the river - at Blackfriars, Tate Britain, Waterloo, Westminster and the Tower of London - they form part of an integrated transport and regeneration strategy for the Thames. New vessels, services and upgraded piers have forged new links between the communities on the north and south banks of the river, improving access to London's historical and cultural 'string of pearls' landmarks.
