About Tate Online

Tate Online was launched in 1998 with the aim of – as with Tate as a whole – increasing public awareness, understanding and appreciation of art.

Tate Online is considered Tate's fifth gallery, with the entire Tate Collection searchable online, including over 55,000 images. In addition to providing a guide to what's on in the galleries, Tate Online offers lasting resources supporting Tate's varied programmes of exhibitions and events, plus unique online activities and interactive content.

Tate Online has won several awards including two Interactive Baftas.

The intial website design was developed with Tate by the London agency Nykris Digital Design, using the graphic identity created by Wolff Olins. Subsequently Tate has developed the site in-house and with significant contributions from a variety of agencies and individuals.
