The Queen has approved the appointment of the Venerable David Willfred Michael Jennings AKC, Archdeacon of Southend, in succession to the Right Reverend John Richard Packer MA on his elevation to the Bishopric of Ripon and Leeds.

David Jennings (aged 55) studied at King’s College, London. He served his first curacy at Walton St Mary, in the Diocese of Liverpool and a further curacy at Christchurch, Winchester Diocese. Between 1973 and 1980 he was appointed Vicar of Hythe near Southampton, and from 1980 to 1992 Vicar of St Edward, Romford in the Chelmsford Diocese. He was Honorary Canon at Chelmsford Cathedral from 1987 to 1992 when he became Archdeacon of Southend. David Jennings is married to Sally and they have three grown-up sons. His interests include exploring the buildings of the British Isles.
