Community Justice

Background

In April 2007 Middlesbrough became one of ten areas chosen for the extension of the Government's 'Community Courts' initiative. This was an opportunity that Cleveland Criminal Justice Board endorsed as 'another significant step forward in strengthening links with local people and ensuring that the justice system is able to reflect their needs and concerns.'

Following the Lord Chancellor's announcement of the extension of the initiative the Criminal Justice Board held detailed discussions with all interested parties and came to the joint conclusion to introduce a Community Court to East Middlesbrough.  This currently covers the areas of: Beckfields; Thorntree; Pallister Park, Brambles Farm, North Ormesby, Berwick Hills and Park End.
