The Prime Minister led a day of activity to celebrate the powerful impact of work done by award-winning social technology pioneers and local community volunteers. This is the second year running the PM has chosen to use July 24 to celebrate social action.

Government sets out 21st century challenges for food in the UK

The Cabinet Office has published the results of a ten-month Strategy Unit project looking at food policy across Government – and concludes that rising demand, climate change, and trade and productivity restrictions must all be addressed. Commissioned by the Prime Minister, the report focuses on food issues in the UK and puts them in a global context.

Data handling procedures across government

The final report on data handling procedures across government has been published. The report sets out how Government is improving its arrangements around information and data security, by putting in place core protective measures, getting the working culture right, improving accountability and scrutiny of performance.

Engaging Communities in Fighting Crime

A major review examining how to better engage communities in the fight against crime and raise public confidence in the Criminal Justice System has been published. ‘Engaging Communities in Fighting Crime’ is the result of an in-depth, eight-month study headed by Louise Casey, former head of the Government’s Respect Task Force.

The review contains more than 30 common-sense proposals to reduce crime, create safer communities and increase public confidence.

30th report on senior salaries

The Senior Salaries Review Body has today published its 30th report on senior salaries within Government. The report, chaired by Sir John Baker makes recommendations that cover Senior Civil Service, senior military, judiciary and very senior NHS managers.
The Prime Minister has published a written ministerial statement in Parliament which states that the Government will accept the recommendations in the report.

Birthday Honours List 2008

The Queen's Birthday Honours list 2008, paying tribute to outstanding achievement and service across the entire community has been published. Many of those honoured have been involved in charitable or voluntary work, or undertaken extra-curricular activities linked to their professions.
