Lt Gen Sir Freddie Viggers KCB CMG MBE

The Adjutant General is the Army's Principal Personnel Officer, Inspector, and People champion on the Army Board.

He sets the conditions to enable the delivery of a sufficient number of capable and well-motivated individuals, by developing and influencing personnel policy. He also ensures the delivery of appropriate assurance and regulation, through the Competent Army Authorities and Inspectorates for all Army activity across Defence in order to enhance and sustain the operational effectiveness of the Army.

 

 

1972    Commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
1983    Attended the Army Staff Course, after which he commanded a gun battery of 3 RHA.
1986    Became Chief of Staff, Headquarters 1st Infantry Brigade/United Kingdom Mobile Force.
1988    Returned to Camberley to join the Staff College Directing Staff.
1989    Assumed command of 3 RHA in Germany in , returning with the Regiment to join 19 Infantry Brigade in Colchester in early 1990.
1994    Became Commander Artillery, Headquarters 3 (UK) Division following a tour in the MOD Central Staff Directorate of Defence Policy.  This tour included attendance on the Higher Command and Staff Course and            deployment to Bosnia within the Headquarters as part of NATO's Implementation Force.
1997    Became Director of Manning (Army).
1999    Promoted to Major General and returned to Bosnia to command Multinational Division (South West).
2000    He moved to HQ LAND where he was the Chief of Staff from February 2000 until May 2003.
2003    From May until September 2003 he was the Senior British Military Representative - Iraq in Baghdad and was awarded the CMG for his work there.
2003    Returned to the UK in October  and took up the post of Military Secretary at Glasgow until March 2005.
2005    He became Adjutant General on promotion to Lieutenant General in April 2005.
2007    Awarded a knighthood in the 2007 New Year Honours List
 

He is married with two children and is an avid follower of all sports.
