Government IT Profession Annual Conference

New Deputy Director takes post
Kate Silver has rejoined the Government IT Profession Team as Deputy Director while Anne Waldron is on maternity leave.

IT Academy seminar programme 2008
Six seminars are planned for the IT Academy seminar programme this year. Once again they are free to attend and lunch is supplied. Details of each seminar and how to book are on the Seminar programme page [accessible to registered users].

The CIO toolkit
The CIO toolkit has been added to the Resources area [accessible to registered users] of the website.

Development opportunities
The IT qualifications landscape is a new document which brings together development opportunities relevant to people working in IT in the public sector. The content is grouped by competency and skill level. IT professionals and line managers, as well as HR professionals, may find this document particularly useful at this time of the year when objectives and personal development plans for the coming year are being agreed.

Community Space launched
Members of the Government IT Profession have been invited to join the new Government IT Profession Community Space [External website]. This space enables networking, discussion and the sharing of information and best practice in relation to all aspects of IT professionalism across the public sector. It is only available to full members of the Government IT Profession, whose names have been submitted to the IT Profession team by their organisation.

The Government IT Profession
The Government IT Profession brings together all IT professionals working across the UK public sector: UK government departments and agencies, local government, the emergency services and specialist deliverers such as the health sector. It includes everyone from new entrants through to the members of the Chief Information Officer Council.

The Head of Profession is John Suffolk, Kate Silver leads the IT Profession Team, based in the Cabinet Office. The Government IT Profession forms the foundation upon which the government’s IT Centre of Excellence is built and is a leading contributor to the Professional Skills for Government agenda.
