Research Contract Details

The Committee has arranged for research to be carried out into a number of topics (click here for details). The Inquiry has now issued a timetable for the five Research Seminars to discuss the draft reports which are being prepared by the successful bidders (click here for details)


The Committee has let the following contracts:

Contract 2, "Hunting with Dogs: expenditure and numbers employed by hunts and their followers". Public and Corporate Economic Consultants (PACEC).

Contract 3, "The indirect effects of hunting with dogs on the rural economy and the longer-term effects of a ban". Public and Corporate Economic Consultants (PACEC).

Contract 4, "The effects of hunting with dogs on the social and cultural life of the countryside in England and Wales". Dr. Paul Milbourne and colleagues, Department of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University, and Market and Opinion Research International (MORI).

Contract 5, "Management of the population of foxes, deer, hares and mink and the impact of hunting with dogs". Contract awarded to each of the following two consortia:

Contract 6, "Methods of controlling foxes, deer, hares and mink". Contract awarded to each of the following two consortia:

Contract 7, "The effects of hunting with dogs in England and Wales on the welfare of deer". Professor Patrick Bateson, University of Cambridge and Professor Roger Harris, University College, Chichester.

Contract 8, "Drag and Bloodhound hunting". Will Manley, Julia Hallett and Graham Smith, Royal Agricultural College Enterprise, Cirencester; and Graham Cox, Department of Social and Policy Sciences, University of Bath.

No bids were received for Contract 1. The Committee has decided not to let Contract 9 (Case study: Disbandment of the New Forest Buckhounds).

Contract 2
Hunting with dogs: Expenditure, and numbers employed, by hunts and their followers.
