Pregnancy at Work

Every year almost 700,000* babies are born, the majority of whom are to working parents.

The law provides protection for employed women who are pregnant or on maternity leave. Rules also apply to employers to help them plan ahead and manage maternity leave and pay.

Changes to the Law for babies due on or after 1 April 2007 are detailed in our new guidance (see brief overview); for babies due on or before 31 March 2007 please refer to ‘The Maternity Rights’ book – both of these are available on our maternity guidance page.
