Capability Review

The purpose of the Departmental Capability Reviews, launched in October 2005, is to improve the capability of the Civil Service to meet today's delivery challenges and be ready for tomorrow's.

The report on the DTI, which was published in December 2006, highlighted the Department's strength in delivering services to its customers, its impressive record of analysis and use of evidence in making policy and its success in providing value-for-money for the taxpayer. The report recommended action be taken in four areas: ensuring the Department's vision and role drives its business; improving leadership; joining-up better with our delivery partners; and driving improved corporate performance. The DTI's Capability Review Implementation Plan, also published at this time, explained how the Department would be taking forward work to build its capability. A copy of the Plan can be viewed by clicking on the link to the right.

This Plan is currently being updated to reflect the capability challenges faced by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
