The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell will be based within the Cabinet Office as Minister of State for the Olympics and will attend Cabinet. The Government Olympic Executive will remain within the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and will report to Minister of State for the Olympics.

National Information Assurance Strategy launched

The Cabinet Office has launched a National Information Assurance Strategy at an annual IA event in Brighton which brings together senior industry and government players to achieve a partnership in addressing the UK's needs in protecting information. Government acknowledges that information is an important asset to all organisations and individuals and as such it must be properly safeguarded. The Strategy calls for the adoption of appropriate information risk management as well as enhancement of professionalism, training education and awareness and compliance to recognised standards as well as ensuring the availability of the right kind of products and services.

Power of information principles get go-ahead from Government

Responding to the independent ‘Power of Information’ review published on 7 June 2007, Cabinet Office Minister Hilary Armstrong has signalled a new direction in the Government's approach to developments on the internet. The review and the Government's response are thought to be the world's first significant investigation of these issues by a government.
