£1.7m transforms Leeds City Art Gallery and Leeds Central Library.

Leeds City Council has exciting plans to restore, refurbish and extend Leeds City Art Gallery and Central Library. Funded by Leeds City Council and Yorkshire Forward, the project will increase public space, improve a range of facilities and make your visit more enjoyable.

The work will commence this Autumn and the Art Gallery will be closed between 26th November 2006 and early May 2007. Re-opening early May 2007, the project will:
  • Unite the Library and Art Gallery buildings by exposing a currently disused former Victorian reading room
  • Provide a new library lift which will enable disabled access to the upstairs art galleries
  • Create a contemporary and relaxed Library and Art Gallery joint entrance and entrance hall
  • Provide a new exhibition gallery for touring exhibition and multimedia installations
  • Provide a new café and shop
