Team allegiances were put to one side on Thursday 20 January when hundreds of Bath based MOD staff turned out to have their photograph taken
with the Barclaycard Premiership Trophy, raising almost £400 in the process for the Forever Friends appeal at the RUH.

Dozens of Service and civilian personnel queued to be photographed throughout the day with the Trophy and were asked to make a voluntary donation to the appeal.

DCDL and Premiership TrophyThe Trophy – which weighs over 25kg and is described as ‘priceless’ – is visiting MOD sites to raise awareness of the Government Procurement Card (GPC), which is run on behalf of MOD by Barclays, the sponsors of the Premiership.

Following in the recent footsteps of Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane, Mr Tim Flesher, the DLO’s Deputy Chief of Defence Logistics, got his hands on the trophy and said:

“I am delighted that so many MOD staff based here in Bath turned out to support an extremely worthwhile cause, the Forever Friends appeal at the Royal United Hospital. The £400 raised will go towards raising £10 million for new state-of-the-art equipment.

“Despite being primarily a rugby city, the appeal of seeing, holding and having a photo taken with one of the most prestigious trophies in football obviously appealed to many people. And being a Brighton fan, getting the chance to hold the trophy myself is probably the closest they will ever get to winning the Premiership!”

The GPC simplifies the purchase of low value, high volume items for MOD and has saved the department over £28m since it was introduced five years ago.
