The Combined Services Culinary Challenge 2005.

This year the annual Combined Services Culinary Challenge (CSCC) will take place at Sandown Park Exhibition Centre, Esher, Surrey on 1, 2 and 3 November.  Each day will be dedicated to a Service (RN, RAF and Army respectively) and will feature a different celebrity chef every day, namely the Tanner Brothers, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Anton Edlemann.

The aim of the event is to provide caterers, chefs and stewards with a competition, which further develops their culinary skills, encourages pride in professional achievement and builds team spirit for the ultimate benefit of the Armed Forces.  The single–Service teams compete for the Champions Trophy and there is fierce inter-Service rivalry creating a unique atmosphere throughout the competition.  The Challenge also provides the opportunity for exhibitors to promote products from the catering industry.

Service, Civilian and MoD caterers will compete against each other in a variety of classes. The range of classes includes all of the main food categories and demonstrates the diversity of modern day military feeding.

The event covers all aspects of catering in the Services, including an outside field catering competition, where teams of chefs are challenged to use field kitchens and operational rations to produce a 2-course meal for 20 people.  The Parade de Chefs of the relevant Service Team each day cook, prepare and serve a VIP meal for 64 diners.  Static classes are also on show throughout and provide the ideal opportunity to view the outstanding technical skills of the chefs with the Inter-Services Buffet Competition undoubtedly the highlight.  There will be an International Team of Judges on hand to judge all the competitions and offer words of advice and guidance to the young caterers competing for the first time.

New for 2005 will be the International Military Grand Prix Class, which will run on 2 November.  Entries have been confirmed from Sweden, USA, Ireland, France, Hungary and a team from the UK Combined Services Culinary Arts Team.

The Sandown Park Exhibition Centre is well sign posted from the M25 and the A3.  Ample car parking is available on site.  The nearest rail station is Esher, which is on the main Waterloo to Woking line and is only 5 minutes walk from Sandown.
