International Forum

On 24 June 2004 , MLA and ICOM UK hosted their first International Forum bringing together representatives from twenty four key organisations including the British Council and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to identify mutually beneficial opportunities for international working for the museums, libraries and archives sector and practical ways to move forward. The theme for this initial event was EU enlargement.

Presentations were made by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the British Council, EUCLID and MLA followed by discussion. The meeting strengthened dialogue with both the FCO and British Council and raised awareness of the potential for museums, libraries and archives to contribute to government’s public diplomacy agenda. Positive dialogue was also commenced regarding practical mechanisms for helping to open up opportunities for our sector. A further International Forum meeting will be held in the autumn.
