What are Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators?

The Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are national data sets against which a project or a company can benchmark its performance.

The  latest Construction Industry KPIs relating to performance in 2003 were launched in June 2004. The pack includes:

Housing Key Performance Indicator Toolkit 2004
This has the same contents as the All Construction pack except that in place of the all construction handbook, KPI Wall Chart and methods of measurement booklet, this contains

  • Wall Charts for New Build Housing KPIs and Housing Repair and Maintenance and Refurbishment KPIs, and booklets on methods of measurement for New Build, Refurbishment and planned work, Repairs and Voids

This report produced by the KPI Working Group sets out a comprehensive framework that construction enterprises can use to measure their performance against the rest of the industry, and has been designed to be used by organisations, large or small, specialist or supplier, designers or constructors.

Design Quality Indicator
The first Design Quality Indicator (DQI) was launched on the 8th July 2002.  The DQI is a new and unique method of assessing the quality of buildings and can be used by anybody involved in the production of the built environment.  The DQI measures the degree of excellence of a facility in relation to its build quality, functionality and impact. National Construction Benchmarking Forum (NCBF)
The NCBF meets 3 times a year and is the forum at which all those with an interest in performance measurement and benchmarking present their work and share their ideas.  The aim of the NCBF is to “maximise communication to avoid duplication” and to encourage working together to share best practice and avoid the burden that duplication may place upon the construction industry and its clients.
