Household spending in the UK

Average weekly household expenditure was £517.30 in 2013. This compares with £501.00 in 2012, after adjusting for inflation.Housing (net), fuel and power was the category with the highest average spending in 2013, at £74.40 per week. This category includes electricity, gas and other fuels (£26.50) and net rentals for housing (£32.00 a week). It does not include mortgage payments. “Net” rent refers to the amount spent on rent after removing housing benefit and related allowances.Householders of the South East of England (£585.40 per week) and London (£579.60 per week) spent the most over the years 2011 to 2013 combined; those in the North East spent the least at £424.60 per week.The lowest earning 10% of households spent an average of £189.80 per week, while the highest earning 10% of households spent an average of £1,119.50 per week.
