    @bowlandwalks Recorded routes should be accurate. Taking into account the gradients increasing the route. The gpx doesn't capture this.

    @bowlandwalks The GPX doesn't take any gradients into account, as you say it smooths it out. This is the most likely reason.

    @GuyWells4 Where possible, we like to show a complete geographical area on one map and avoid splitting large towns over more than one sheet.
